At last, / ついに

I was on top of my finished tower. // 僕は完成した塔の上にいた。

More and more people were coming / ますます多くの人が来ていた

to look at the windmill. // 風車を見に。

They were standing around the tower / 彼らは塔の回りに立っていた

and looking up. // そして見上げていた。

From the top, / 塔の上から

I could see the faces of my friends / 友だちの顔が見えた

and the people I knew. // そして知っている人の。

There was little wind at first / 最初はあまり風がなかった

and the windmill did not turn. // そして風車は回らなかった。

Then, / それから

the wind became stronger, / 風が強くなった

and the fan began to turn. // そして翼が回り始めた。

It turned slowly at first, / はじめはゆっくりと回った

then faster and faster, / それから徐々に回転が速くなった

until the force of its motion rocked the tower. // 翼の動力で塔が揺れるほどにまで。

Finally, / とうとう

a small light came on, / 小さな光がついた

and then it became stronger. // それからその光が強くなった。

“It’s true!” / 「本当だ！」

someone said. // とだれかが言った。

“The boy has done it!” // 「あの子がやったぞ！」

Although this was only a little step / これはささいな一歩でしかなかったが

toward my goal, / 僕の目標にとっては

it definitely brightened our future. // 確かに僕の将来を輝かせてくれたのだった。
