Shoppers filled a big London department store /
ロンドンの大きなデパートは買い物客でいっぱいになっていた
one day in 1969. //
1969年のある日。
John and Ace shared a house in London. //
ジョンとエースはロンドンで同居していた。
They were shopping then /
彼らはそのとき買い物をしているところだった
for Christmas presents /
クリスマスプレゼントを探して
to send to their families in Australia. //
オーストラリアにいる家族に贈るための
While they were shopping, /
買い物をしている最中
they found a small cage /
彼らは小さなケージを見つけた
with a baby lion in it /
子ライオンの入った
for sale! //
売り出し中の！
“I’ve never seen a lion /
「ライオンなんて見たことがない
at a department store!” //
デパートで！」
Ace cried out in surprise. //
とエースは驚きのあまり叫んだ。
The baby lion was cute /
子ライオンはかわいかった
but looked really sad. //
しかし，とても悲しそうに見えた。
They felt sorry for the lion /
彼らはライオンがかわいそうだと思った
in such a small cage. //
そんな小さなケージに入れられて。
Finally John said, /
ついにジョンがこう言った
“Let’s buy him.” //
「この子を買おう。」
